Retirement mutual funds are intended to provide retirees with financial assistance by raising the capital during the investor's earning age.
These funds follow an aggressive investment style by selecting high-risk stocks in the portfolio at the young and earning stage of the investor.
Since retirement is mostly more than 15 years away from such investors, high-risk stocks add considerable value to the portfolio which allows more
resources to be created for retirement planning. As the investor approaches the retirement age, the corpus is usually moved to the same scheme's
moderate or conservative plan that has a less risky portfolio. When the retirement age is reached, the investor would have gained sufficient funds
through the aggressive plan and thus a defensive portfolio can preserve the amount collected and add regular income through debt securities.
